Cafe D'Wine
Even if we were to ignore the cringe-worthy pun that makes up the moniker for Bandra’s new wine bar/café, we still wouldn’t go bar to Café D’wine, which recently replaced Ivy Bar in Bandra. While the layout of the space remains largely intact, the décor has received an upgrade, in the shape of pretty Mediterranean tiles, upside down wine glasses, slated wood furniture and a rather tired Italian mural.
Vino You Want To
Settling in, we were informed that while the cafe is open for walk-ins, it will launch a complete menu next week. Thus warned, we browsed through a list of ho-hum appetizers like honey-glazed chicken, bruschetta and mini chicken burgers, settling for cottage cheese stuffed potato skins, crispy calamari and sangria, choosing to skip over a limited wine list that comprised mainly of Turning Point and York wines.
The cottage cheese stuffed potato skins arrived first, a cheesy, tasty mess contained in tightly grilled potato jackets. We washed these down with sangria, potent and fruity, swimming with apples, pears and peeled oranges.
D’wine is owned by the same people behind former Italian restaurant Da Vinci, and so we had our hopes pinned on the pies here. Featuring a crunchy thin crust, juicy chicken and a thin layer of cheese, the slices disappeared fast.
